Congratulations to everyone that performed in Pizazz! You were all amazing!
Welcome!
We are the Irish Dancing Society at the University of Warwick. We are very excited to be in our third year. Our classes are open to complete beginners as well as students with some experience. We teach Irish dance classes, take part in performances and enjoy organising social events throughout the year. Come along if you want to have fun, make new friends and learn something new or perfect what you already know in a relaxed, student-orientated environment! We will be teaching basic technique as well as more creative group dances, including ceili. As dancers progress we will also teach more complex routines. Irish dancing is a great way to improve confidence, fitness and posture and we are open to absolutely anybody- please email us at su571@warwicksu.com if you have questions.
Classes
Classes are every Monday evening, 7.30-9 during which we cover hard and soft shoe dancing. We immediately start learning routines as we have many performances at the beginning of February, however this allows us to learn at a slower pace allowing beginners to learn basic steps.
The class is an hour and a half. As our teacher comes from outside the university, classes are £4.
Extra classes will be held free of charge around campus to prepare for exhibitions and shows
Performances
Every year, the society performs in Pizazz, a fantastic spectacle of dance including performances from all of Warwick's dance societies. We also perform in the One World Week Carnival and World Party at the beginning of February and have even been asked to perform specially in Busta Move, Warwick's annual dance competition. We also perform at ceilidhs hosted by Warwick Folk Society.
Socials and Events
We hold a range of regular fun social events including circling before Pop and have lots of fun during, meals and drinks. 2 years ago the society went to Dublin and last year, trips included going to see Riverdance and Michael Flately in his final tour as Lord of the Dance.
